Taiwan is located in the Circum-Pacific seismic belt and subtropical monsoon zone. The earthquake, typhoon, heavy rainfall and other natural disasters are highly frequency occurred. In addition, man-made disasters, unpredicted, occurred occasionally. Therefore, the government is very emphasized in the projects of disaster prevention, relief and promoting disaster prevention education. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Technology Research Center (DPMTRC) at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) is a cooperatively team of Pingtung County Government (PCG). The DPMTRC has helped PCG to establish disaster prevention database under the financial support of PCG, Ministry of Science and Technology and National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR). In general, DPMTRC help PCG to integrate and update disaster prevention database and information. In addition, DPMTRC assist local governments and communities to carry out disaster prevention education and training. In the event of disaster response, DPMTRC assist local governments to carry out disasters investigation and judgment. The disaster prevention database is used to build the major potential disaster maps, locations disaster-prone maps, refuge shelters, and historical disaster maps. In addition, the database is used to analyze the risk of major industries in Pingtung County. At present, the risk analysis of flooding disaster for major industrial in Pingtung County has been established, including the flood risk of major crops, aquaculture, animal husbandry, Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Parks and green energy industries. The risk analyze results can be provided disaster prevention in disaster response.
