NPUST Hosts 24th Sustainable Development Management Seminar

The 24th Sustainable Development Management Seminar was held on May 26, 2023 at the NPUST College of Management under the theme of “Creating Sustainable Symbiosis and Service Innovation in a Post-Epidemic, Artificial Intelligence Era”. Experts and scholars from industry, government, academia were invited to participate. A call was made for papers to be published in 16 different fields of research, including 1. Industrial innovation and entrepreneurship management; 2. International business management; 3. Knowledge management; 4. Technology and R&D management; 5. Production and operation management; 6. Marketing management; 7. Decision analysis and quantitative methods; 8. Human resources and organizational management; 9. Agricultural enterprise operation and management; 10. Information management and e-commerce; 11. Finance and accounting; 12. Fashion operations and management; 13. Catering, tourism and service management; 14. Urban and rural, landscape and recreation management; 15. Strategic management; and 16. Other management issues. Professor Hao Chiang Lin of National Tainan University was also invited to speak on “Creating with AI: Combining ChatGPT+ Midjourney Painting with Modern Poetry and Visual Art”.  

NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang delivered a speech at the event, stating, “academia has long played a role in the creation and dissemination of knowledge. By aggregating academic energy and sharing information, and by interacting and communicating through this symposium, we hope participants will gain a deeper understanding of sustainable symbiosis and service innovation, and that key industry trends in Taiwan can be identified so we can become more competitive.

Yi-Chaio Huang, dean of the College of Management also delivered a speech, saying “the Sustainable Development Management Seminar is a seminar that our college has been organizing for a long time. Through the lectures, paper presentations, and poster presentations, teachers and students can study topics together. Along with generational changes, the topics of discussion need to keep pace with the times. I hope this conference will be a complete success.” Director Chung-Jen Wang of the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management said, “the seminar combines the expertise of various departments in the College of Management and allows students and the participating experts and scholars to communicate and share through discussions on various topics.”

The seminar was very effective in terms of papers solicitation, with 54 papers selected for publication. Papers were published on such issues as “the impact of promotional videos on Green consumption knowledge and behavior in the catering industry”; “Can agriculture help cities promote low-carbon transformation?”; “Research on the Relationship between Xiaoliuqiu’s Plastic-Free Island Project and Marine Ecological Sustainable Tourism”, and many more. Hopes are that the event will allow for industry, government, and academia to better integrate resources and allow Taiwan’s businesses to better pursue sustainable development while also innovating and improving their services. As today’s industries are faced with constantly changing environments, creating sustainable symbiosis and service innovation has become key to maintaining the competitive advantage.
