Forestry Department Carbon Sequestration Method Aims at Net-Zero Goals

With the world pushing for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Taiwan has made policy announcements and taken actions which echo the global trend. As Taiwan’s premier agricultural university, the century-old National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) has recognized its particular responsibility to conduct research on agricultural carbon reduction. Currently, a research team working under Associate Professor Yu-Ting Wu of the NPUST Department of Forestry is cooperating with the government to implement “Net Zero” objectives by improving soil carbon sinks (i.e. yellow carbon) and developing “carbon-negative” farming methods (where carbon removed exceeds carbon emitted).

森林系研發提升黃碳固存農法力行2050淨零碳排

全球力促2050淨零碳排,台灣亦在政策上宣示與行動,共同呼應全球趨勢。作為台灣首屈一指的百年農業大學,於農業減碳研究上更是責無旁貸。在強化土壤碳匯(即黃碳)建構負碳農法(負碳:「碳清除量」遠超過「碳排放量」)技術,森林系吳羽婷副教授研究團隊配合政府執行淨零排放,以農業部門增匯技術及其誘因機制之計畫,從環境中開發具有高效率固碳潛力的微生物,透過一系列實驗包括偵測電子傳遞鏈及栽培試驗驗證從湖泊中篩出的光合細菌Rhodopseudomonas sp.分離株 PYX C11、PYX 12、PYX 24與PYX 39具有高固碳潛力等。這些光合細菌屬紫色非硫細菌(purple nonsulfur bacteria),可利用太陽能將空氣和周邊環境中的二氧化碳、水及無機鹽等化合物製造成有機物,提供自身代謝並儲存成生長所需的能量來源。光合細菌具有固碳、固氮、脫氮與硫化物氧化等功能,它在自然界中是碳、氮、硫循環的重要角色。研究團隊將分離出來的光合細菌施用於水稻耕作系統,試驗發現有添加光合細菌的實驗組水稻生長比無添加的對照組生長狀態更好,其中以添加分離株PYX 12與PYX C11效果最佳,其次為分離株PYX 39與 PYX 24。這些具有高固碳潛力的光合細菌在生長的過程中亦能促進水稻茁壯,同時有效率地捕捉空氣中的二氧化碳。此耕作模式能兼顧作物的生長與碳吸存,研究團隊也同時著手進行監測光合細菌對土壤碳匯的效益。

NPUST-Led Team Wins 2 Golds at Warsaw Invention Show

The 17th International Warsaw Invention Show was held at the Warsaw University of Science and Technology from December 12 to 14 (2023), with fifteen countries participating in the event. This show is the second largest international exhibition of inventions in the European Union. The teams representing Taiwan at the show saw considerable success, winning 14 gold medals and 9 silver medals in total. Among the winning entries, two works submitted by a joint team from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) and the Taiwan Air Force and Navy won Gold Medal Awards and a Special Contribution Award.

屏科大與海空軍及中研院合作 AI及ESG技術於波蘭發明展摘雙金

2023第十七屆波蘭國際發明展於2023年12月12至14日於波瀾華沙科技大學舉行,本次有來自羅馬尼亞、拉脫維亞、沙烏地阿拉伯等15國共同參展,該展為歐盟第二大國際發明展。台灣代表團總參展獲得14金9銀,其中屏科大達人學院徐子圭教授團隊與空軍及海軍合作兩項作品榮獲大會金牌獎及特殊貢獻獎,特於2024年1月10日(三)上午10點假屏科大智慧農機中心三樓進行成果發表。本次參賽作品由屏科大徐子圭教授領軍團隊,結合屏科大戴昌賢教授、蔡尚翰助理教授、空軍航院胡明森副教授、葉南慶副教授、中央研究院陳致頴博士、業界專家蘇宥霖先生、海軍大氣海洋局等共同合作,發明創作「低碳超音速空氣震波鬆土與穴施裝置」、「微型移動式深度學習海面浪高預測系統」,榮獲第17屆波蘭華沙發明展金牌兩面及特殊貢獻獎一座。
