The UK’s Times Higher Education (THE) special issue recently announced the “impact ranking” of universities from around world. In the overall assessment, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) was situated in the 101-200 tier, while also ranking 5th in the Taiwan and 1st in among Taiwan’s universities of science and technology. Meanwhile, on 5 of the indicators under consideration, NPUST found itself among the top 100 universities world-wide.

The UK’s Times Higher Education (THE) has released the University Impact Rankings for 2024 based on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), which has seen strong performances for four consecutive years, made a considerable stride forward in the 2024 evaluation, with an overall worldwide ranking of 101-200. Compared with other Taiwan universities, NPUST ranked 5th overall and 1st among the country’s 51 universities of science and technology. On five of the individual indicators, NPUST also found itself among the top 100 universities worldwide—and on one of these, Poverty Eradication (SDG1), it came first in the country, which is a new milestone and cause for celebration on its centennial anniversary this year.

The 25th Sustainable Development Management Seminar was grandly held at 10 a.m. today (5/24) at the NPUST College of Management. A number of distinguished guests participated in the opening ceremony including NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang, Vice-President Shui-jen Chen, College of Management Dean Yi-Chaio Huang, Foundation for Yunus Social Business Chairperson Hui-Ling Tsai, Taiwan Textile Federation Chairman James Kuo, and a number other university and industry representatives.

The “Green Island Marine Ecological Restoration Action Project” was been launched by a group of likeminded organizations including the Fisheries Agency (MOA), the Green Island District Fisheries Association, Academia Sinica Green Island Research Station, National Science Council Green Island Station, Taiwan Ocean Conservation and Fisheries Sustainability Foundation, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) Aquaculture Conservation Center, and Business Today magazine.

As part of the government’s net-zero carbon emission policy, the Ministry of Agriculture is promoting four major areas of focus, including “reduction”, ” carbon sinks”, “recycling” and “green trends”. They also hope to see the active development of electric agricultural machinery which can replace the traditional combustion engines and help achieve carbon reduction goals. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture Department of Agricultural Science and Technology invited industrial technology research institutes, battery motor & electronic control manufacturers and agricultural machinery manufacturers to attend a machine and tool exhibition at the NPUST Center for Smart Agriculture on April 24th, 2024.
