Taiwan-Japan Online Seminar for Smart and Circular Agriculture

National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) has added a new element to its efforts in sustainable development research: On August 4th and 5th, the university’s College of Agriculture and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) linked up with Japan for the “Taiwan-Japan Online Seminar for Smart and Circular Agriculture”. The seminar was opened with a speech made by Mr. Huang Hsin-Chien, the executive director of the central branch of the ITRI. Following this, NPUST President Chang-Hsien Tai, welcomed all the distinguished guests from industry, government and academia and thanked them for their contributions to sustainable development. The Pingtung County magistrate, Mr. Pan Men-An, and the Director of the Economic Section of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Mr. Nobuyuki Shikasho, were also invited to speak. Hopes are that through the cooperation of industrial, academic, and research organizations in Taiwan and Japan, new applications of Smart technology will be used to help achieve Circular and zero-carbon production. The seminar attracted over 300 online participants.

NPUST and Phihong Technology Co. Link-up for Energy Grid

On July 31st, a team of NPUST professors including Dr. Chang-Hsien Tai, Dr. Uzu-Kuei Hsu, Dr. Yao-Nan Wang, and Dr. Chin-Lung Chang met with professionals from Phihong Technology Co. to discuss topics related to smart grids and rapid charging technology for electric vehicles. The university will build a demonstration charging station that integrates wind energy, solar energy, biogas, biomass energy and other hybrid-energy energy-storage mechanisms.

屏科大參與永續發展研究成果再添一樁:今明兩日(8/4、8/5)由國立屏東科技大學農學院與工研院以台、日兩地線上連線方式共同舉辦「台日智慧與循環農業線上研討會」,研討會致詞由工研院中分院執行長黃新鉗先生開場,接著由戴昌賢校長代表屏科大歡迎線上所有貴賓與產、官、學專家代表們,感謝大家對永續發展貢獻努力。另也邀請到屏東縣長潘孟安先生、日本台灣交流協會台北事務所經濟部四之所 信之 主任線上致詞,期許透過台、日雙方產、學、研的合作,以智慧科技實現循環與零碳排的產業生態,該研討會共吸引超過300人線上共同參與。

Creating an Ecological Blueprint for Grass Owl Conservation

森林系與屏東林管處攜手畫出高屏生態草鴞保育平台藍圖

本校森林系與屏東林區管理處、冠昇生態有限公司透過「高屏地區生態藍圖建置計畫」,於110年7月23日上午9點在線上辦理第二次生態保育工作坊「2021年草鴞保育平台交流會議」。邀請到屏東林區管理處楊瑞芬處長、嘉義林區管理處張岱處長、特生中心林瑞興組長等相關主管單位及生態保育專家,共同畫出草鴞的保育平台藍圖。屏東林管處於107至109年間,透過高屏地區生態藍圖建置計畫,陸續辦理數次淺山生態保育工作坊與跨機關連繫平台會議,本次生態保育工作坊內容是針對草鴞的保育措施進行討論,以及規劃嘉義以南地區後續跨域合作事項,期望透過草鴞保育以推動高屏地區生態藍圖建置計畫。

“Protecting Every Owl”: Academia and Industry Join Forces on Conservation Work

With cute owls and hawks playing the starring roles, the “Guarding Every Owl” environmental and ecological restoration project was jointly launched by Farglory Life Insurance and the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST). To carry out the work, several ecological restoration bases have been established in Gaoshu Township (Pingtung). NPUST’s long-term local wildlife research will be combined with Farglory Life’s practical experience in caring for rural areas. The two parties have formed an interdisciplinary industry-academic alliance and are working to create sustainable ecological chains—with owls at the top. Sustainable ecology, non-toxic production, and healthy living are being linked to drive community industry and rural economic development. Also, in the future, the Farglory Life Volunteer Group will work with teachers and students at the NPUST Institute of Wildlife Conservation to hold multilateral practical exchanges on friendly farming and support disadvantaged rural areas.

「守護億隻鴞」偏鄉貓頭鷹及老鷹保育結合企業出新招

以一隻隻萌翻的貓頭鷹和老鷹作為主打,「守護億隻鴞」環境生態復育計畫,是由遠雄人壽和國立屏東科技大學共同推出,於屏東縣高樹鄉設立數個生態復育基地,以屏科大對在地野生動物及環境之長期研究為背景,結合遠雄人壽對偏鄉關懷之實務經驗,雙方進行跨領域產學結盟。打造以貓頭鷹為首的永續生態鏈,連結永續生態、無毒生產與健康生活,以三生一體的方式帶動社區產業及偏鄉經濟發展。未來遠雄人壽志工團將攜手屏科大野保所師生共同為友善農作及偏鄉弱勢進行多方實務交流,USR X CSR共同開展ESG,共創社會責任價值。

300 Years in Liudui: An International Conference on the History of Prosperity among Diverse Ethnic Groups

This year, to commemorate the 300 year anniversary of Liudui, the Hakka Affairs Council and NPUST cooperated to host the “300 Year Anniversary Research Conference: A History of Prosperity among Diverse Ethnic Groups”. On June 3rd, the opening ceremony was held online, with the internationally renowned scholar, Myron L. Cohen, and former professor of Tokyo Metropolitan University, Yoshio Watanabe, invited to present their research.
