On March 3rd, Director Jie-Lun Chiang and four students of the NPUST Department of Soil and Water Conservation set up shop at Pingtung County’s Min Park to hold educational activities for visitors who came for the 2022 Environment & Disaster Prevention Results Exhibition. The exhibition included 40 booths which gave visitors a chance to view the results of work being done on environment and disaster prevention education in Pingtung and it also allowed them to participate in activities designed to share the experience of study in this field.

Today, as the world faces such challenges as climate change, financial inequality, and trade imbalances, saving the planet is a matter that cannot be delayed. NPUST and the Taiwan Soka Association jointly organized the “Soka SDGs x Seeds of Hope and Action Exhibition” holding the opening ceremony on December 20th at the first floor of the NPUST Library and Exhibition Hall. The event was used to introduce the United Nations SDGs to people together with details about the “Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and the “Earth Charter Initiative”. Through the diversified, interactive content of the jointly-organized exhibition, hopes are that the related issues will resonate with more members of the public and together, people will focus on sustainable development.

An ecological project taking place through the cooperative efforts of NPUST and Farglory Life Insurance, has commissioned a professional ecological research team to conduct in-depth field investigations. By using corporate resources, they are promoting ecological conservation and developing environmental public welfare. As part of this, today (12/14) a presentation was held at the university’s Smart Farm to publish the results of NPUST X Farglory Life “Protecting Every Owl” project.

This August (‘21), NPUST published a Sustainability Report (2020) for the first time—and with its first publication, it was honored to receive the “Platinum Award” in the University category at the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards. The report includes performances in “School Governance”, “Financial Management”, “Environmental Sustainability” and “Social Inclusion” from 2017~2019.

HAPPY DIWALI!The annual Indian festival of lights has arrived, and on November 3rd, the International College hosted a special activity to celebrate the occasion. The NPUST Indian Student Association organized the event, which included a candle lighting ceremony, Indian dancing, a traditional costume fashion show, and cuisine sharing. Students from the university, regardless of nationality, were welcomed to join the celebrations and experience authentic Indian customs as their Indian classmates ushered in the New Year.

In a response to “World River Day”, on October 7th, Deputy Executive Director Dr. Herlin Chien of the NPUST Sustainable Development Office invited the Environmental Protection Bureau of Pingtung County, Wanluan Township Office, Taiwan Donggang River Conservation Society, Yunlin County legislative member Liao Yu-hsien, the Changhua County Luoxi Community Patrol Team and a group of over 100 teachers and students from NPUST to take part in a conservation activity entitle “NPUST Responds to World Rivers Day – Investigation into Challenges and Opportunities for Livestock Wastewater”. The activity began in the morning with a trip to Wugou Community Park in Wanluan, where an ecological survey was conducted. Back at the university for the afternoon, a sharing and discussion session was held on the topic of “River Patrol and Rehabilitation Action”. In addition to the ecological tour and the discussions with representatives from all over the world, students of NPUST added a creative musical element to the activities by writing songs on river conservation and performing them at the venue.
